Nautical Quest Generator – Craft Awesome Adventures at Sea

by Marius on June 28, 2025
How to Use the Nautical Quest Generator

Illusory Script presents: the Nautical Quest Generator — a simple, no-nonsense tool designed to deliver sea-soaked adventure hooks. Whether we’re prepping tonight’s session or fleshing out a coastal town’s job board, this generator gives us fast, flavorful, adaptable quests.

Use It to Fill Out Job Boards

When our party drops anchor in any seaside settlement they’ll likely find a job board. Use the generator to quickly fill these boards with quests. In my experience, three quests are a good number for players to pick from.

Here’s a tip: Have players pick a quest at the end of a session (for example at the end of our Session Zero Adventure), so you have time to prepare the adventure in between sessions. I’ve used the exact technique in my Radiant Citadel Campaign.

That way, the job board becomes a great technique to inject agency and variety without heavy prep.

Adapt Results to Fit Your World

The prompts are intentionally broad. Swap out locations, NPC names, and monster types to align with your setting’s tone and lore. For example, use Eberron Factions as quest-givers in your Lhazaar Principalities campaign.

The goal isn’t to use the generator’s results verbatim — it’s a starting point for our imagination. Customize freely. Use these hooks to flesh out local factions, seed rumors, or tie into ongoing plots.
